VSD and Department of Statistics collect data on chicken supply
SERDANG: The Veterinary Services Department (VSD) and Statistics Department have been tasked to collect chicken supply data to ensure food safety control is managed in an orderly manner, Tan Sri Annuar Musa said , Chairman of the Special Task Force on Inflation Jihad.
“Without clear data, the issue of food security cannot be comprehensively managed,” said the Minister of Communications and Multimedia, who added that it was a question of preventing the government from adopting measures ad hoc and flip-flop policies.
He said the JPV has one week to come up with a data management model for chicken production and import, in addition to having the latest data on import permit records to track the total amount of chicken imports.
The statistics department, meanwhile, is expected to prepare a monthly chicken production cost index, where the figure will be used as a benchmark to determine fair prices at the retail and sales level, he said. at a press conference on Thursday (August 11) after chairman of the 10th round of meetings of the special task force on jihad against inflation.
Annuar said the policy on the import and export of whole chickens, including the price of cooking oil set for now, would be maintained and not changed until the VSD and the Department of statistics master the management of data in a more organized way.
“This model (on data management) can be extended to other food products to provide more orderly control of food safety based on more structured management,” he said.
